ICONE

    Examples of Applications

The neutron techniques implemented at the ICONE facility offer a wide range of scientific and industrial applications. Thanks to the complementarity of the instruments (diffraction, scattering and imaging), they make it possible to explore matter in a non-destructive way and at different length scales.

In materials science, these techniques are used to analyze atomic structures, crystalline phases and internal stresses in metals, alloys and ceramics. This information is essential for improving the performance and durability of advanced materials.

In energy and industry, they enable the study of batteries, hydrogen-related materials, catalysts and components operating under extreme conditions. Neutron imaging is also used to inspect complex assemblies and technical systems.

In biology and life sciences, neutrons make it possible to observe biological structures, membranes and molecular interactions, particularly thanks to their sensitivity to hydrogen and water, providing unique contrasts.
