    WP2 • DATA • NEUTRON INSTRUMENTATION
    The main objective of WP2 “Data Production” is to address the scientific requirements defined by the community in WP1 “Science” by providing a complete instrumental suite based on time-of-flight neutron scattering techniques.
    This instrumental suite must be versatile and enable the investigation of both the structure and dynamics of matter.
    Main Requirements
    WP2 “Data Production” focuses on several major deliverables designed to ensure the scientific and technical performance of the facility.
    Instrument Suite Design, construction and commissioning of a neutron scattering instrument suite optimized to meet scientific requirements.
    Sample Environment Provide cryostats, magnets, pressure systems and polarization devices.
    Laboratories & Characterization Provide facilities for sample preparation and characterization.
    Data Acquisition Generate, store and secure experimental data.
    Data Reduction Develop tools enabling the extraction of physical parameters from experimental data.
    Scientific Analysis Implement software solutions for neutron data analysis.
    Scientific Information Provided by the Instruments
    The instruments will provide essential information on the structure, dynamics and physical properties of materials.
    Crystal and Magnetic Structures Determination of atomic arrangements and magnetic moments.
    Mesoscopic Structures Analysis of structures at intermediate length scales, including shapes and dimensions.
    Molecular Organization Investigation of complex molecular systems.
    Excitations and Vibrations Analysis of collective atomic and magnetic motions.
    Strains and Textures Study of internal mechanical properties and material textures.

    To achieve these scientific objectives, four major categories of instruments will be made available to users.
    Diffraction Determination of atomic and magnetic structures.
    Small-Angle Scattering & Reflectometry Investigation of large-scale and interfacial structures.
    Spectroscopy Analysis of excitations, vibrations and material dynamics.
    Imaging & Gamma Activation Analysis Investigation of material composition and spatial distribution.
    Time-of-flight neutron scattering provides high experimental flexibility. Instrument parameters can be precisely adjusted to optimize each experiment.
